20th-ranked Lady Bears split doubleheader at 8th-ranked Jones

The 20th-ranked Lady Bears softball team stunned 8th-ranked Jones in game one of their MACCC matchup Monday afternoon in Ellisville, winning 6-2.

Jones came back to gain the split in the doubleheader with a 10-2, six inning win, in the finale.

Jones led game one 1-0 before the Lady Bears (15-7, 7-5) tied it at 1-1 on a Bailey Buckley solo home run to left field in the top of the 4th inning.

Jade Latham, Mikenzi Authement, Halee Jenkins, Ashleigh Rowland and each had an RBI single in the top of the 5th, and Buckley walked with the bases loaded, to put the Lady Bears on top 6-1. Jenkins hit was her second of the game.

Jones (21-5, 10-4) scored what would prove to be the final run of the game in their half of the 5th.

Jensen Gremillion picked up the complete-game win in the circle, allowing two runs on seven hits and five walks. She struck out six batters.

Madison Moak had two singles in the game.

Jones led the nightcap 6-0 before Buckley opened the Lady Bears' 4th with a homer to centerfield. Pinch-runner Ashja Walker scored on a passed ball to make the score 6-2.

That would be all the Lady Bears could muster as Jones added three more runs in the bottom of the 4th and a single run in the 6th to close out the scoring.

Latham took the loss in the circle, giving up three runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk in two innings.

With their next two scheduled doubleheaders postponed, the Lady Bears are next set to hit the field on April 6, at home, against Mississippi Gulf Coast. The conference twinbill will get underway at 3:00.
