Bears win game 2, 7-6, to split with 14th-ranked Jones

The Bears withstood a late rally by 14th-ranked Jones to pick up a 7-6 win in game two and gain a split in their MACCC doubleheader Thursday night in Summit.
 
Jones won the opener 12-0 in five innings.
 
The Bears trailed the nightcap 3-0 before getting on the board in their half of the 3rd inning. Jonathan Havard led off with a base hit and later scored on an error. Austin Willis and Gage Gregory both had RBI singles and Dillon Morgan a two-RBI double to put the Bears on top 5-3.
 
In the bottom of the 4th, a leadoff homer from Havard and another Willis RBI single extended the Bears' lead to 7-3.
 
Jones (15-11, 8-4) then added a run in the top of the 6th to cut the Bears' lead to 7-4.
 
With two outs in the 7th, Jones added the final two runs of the night with two outs and had two runners on base before Josh Bailey struck out the final batter of the night to give the Bears the win.
 
Jacob McDaniel picked up the win for the Bears in relief, giving up three unearned runs on two hits and a pair of walks in four innings of work. He struck out three batters.
 
Bailey walked one and struck out one in 0.1 innings to record the save.
 
Presley Hall had a double for the Bears.
 
Jones sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs in the top of the 1st in the opener on their way to the win.
 
Case Roark took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs on six hits and a walk in one inning. He struck out one batter.
 
Braxton Cooksey had a single for the Bears.
 
The Bears (4-12, 3-5) remain at home for their next contest, hosting the Holmes Bulldogs on March 20 for a 2:00 conference doubleheader.
