Lady Bears split at home with East Mississippi

The Lady Bears split an MACCC doubleheader with East Mississippi Community College Saturday afternoon in Summit, winning game one 8-5 before falling 8-2 in the finale.
 
The Lady Bears led the opener 3-2 after two innings. They picked up their first run, in the 1st, when Jenna Brock, on base via a single, scored on a ground out. In the 2nd, Ashleigh Rowland had an RBI double-the first of her two hits in the game-and later scored on a Mel Lewis base hit.
 
After East Mississippi scored a run in the top of the 4th, the Lady Bears (11-5, 3-3) made it 6-3 in the bottom of the frame. Brock scored on a ground out and Jade Latham hit a two-run homer (she also had a single and double in the game). Scoring ahead of Latham was Lewis, on base with a double.
 
Both teams scored twice in the 5th inning to reach the final score. Brock had drove in a run for with a single and the final run of the game came on a walk and error.
 
Jensen Gremillion picked up the complete-game win in the circle, allowing five runs-four earned-on nine hits and a pair of walks. She struck out 10 batters.
 
Shelby Mason had a double for the Lady Bears.
 
The Lady Bears trailed 5-0 in the nightcap before getting on the board in the bottom of the 4th on solo homers from Latham and Bailey Buckley to make the score 5-2.
 
East Mississippi (1-15, 1-9) then added two runs in the 5th and another in the 7th.
 
Latham took the loss in the circle, allowing five runs on five hits and a walk in 3.1 innings. She struck out four batters.

The Lady Bears return to action on March 14 when they host the Coahoma Lady Tigers in conference play. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for a 12:00 first pitch.
