Bears drop conference twinbill at Hinds

The host Hinds Eagles, ranked 19th in the NJCAA's pre-season poll, took a pair of MACCC games from the Bears Wednesday evening, winning game one 11-9 before taking the finale 13-2 in five innings.

The Bears held a 6-0 lead after 4 ½ innings of the opener. Gage Gregory blasted a three-run homer in the 1st inning and had a two-RBI single in the 2nd while Braxton Cooksey drove in a run with a single, the first of his two hits, in the 4th.

Hinds (8-6, 6-2) tied the game with six runs in their half of the 4th and scored five times in the 5th to go ahead 11-6.

The Bears pulled to within 11-7 in the top of the 6th before scoring the final runs of the game on an Easton Porter two-run homer in the 7th.

Ilich Purcell took the loss on the mound after giving up 5 runs on 5 hits in just over an inning.

Jerod Williams had singled twice for the Bears.

Hinds led 3-0 after an inning of game two. Presley Hall tripled in the Bears' 2nd and scored on a Mason Barker ground out to make the score 3-1.

Trailing 13-1 in the top of the 4th, Hall tripled for the second time and scored on Porter's line out to account for the final run of the game.

Josh Bailey took the loss on the mound, giving up 7 runs on 6 hits in 1 innings. He struck out 2 batters.
