Lady Bears split home doubleheader with 19th-ranked Lansing

The Lady Bears split a home doubleheader with 19th-ranked Lansing Community College Monday afternoon, winning a 2-1 pitcher's duel in the opener before falling 8-6 in the finale.
 
A Jade Latham RBI-single put the Lady Bears on top 1-0 in their half of the first inning in game one.
 
Lansing used a double and error to score their only run of the game in the top of the third to tie the game at 1-1.
 
In the bottom of the third, Jayden Davis scored what proved to be the winning run on a Shelby Mason sacrifice fly.
 
Latham went the distance in the circle to pick up the win, giving up an unearned run on three hits and a walk while striking out three.
 
Madison Newman had two singles for the Lady Bears while Jenna Brock had a double.
 
With two on base, Newman smashed a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence to give the Lady Bears (7-6) a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game two. She later added a single.
 
Lansing (2-4) picked up a run in their half of the second inning and added four more in the top of the third to take a 5-3 lead.
 
Mason's RBI-base single, the first of her two hits in the game, pulled the Lady Bears to within 5-4 in the bottom of the third.
 
Lansing led 8-4 going into the bottom of the fifth. Bases-loaded walks to Scottie Metrejean and Morgan Smith pulled the Lady Bears to within 8-6, but that would be as close as they would get.
 
The Lady Bears put the tying runs on base in the bottom of the seventh, but Lansing held on for the win.
 
Allie Hunt allowed seven runs (one earned) on nine hits in four innings in the circle in taking the loss. She struck out one batter.
 
Latham doubled in the game while Brock had a pair of singles.

After taking time off for Spring Break, the Lady Bears return to the diamond and begin MACJC play on March 18 in Poplarville with a doubleheader at Pearl River. Game one is set for a 3:00 first pitch.
