Lady Bears go 1-3 in Juco Classic

The Lady Bears finished this weekend's Juco Classic in Brandon on Saturday with (Saturday's results) after going falling to LSU-Eunice (9-0) and defeating Marion Military Institute (3-2) Friday night.
 
On Saturday, they dropped a 13-6 decision to Coastal Alabama South and were defeated 5-4 by Highland Community College (KS). The losses dropped their record to 6-5 overall.
 
SMCC 3-Marion Military Institute 2: The Lady Bears trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the 6th when a 2-run homer from Jade Latham (her 2nd hit of the game) tied the game. Mikenzi Authement, on base via a walk, then scored what proved to be the winning run on a passed ball.
 
Jolie Freeman was the winning pitcher. In 2 innings in the circle, she surrendered 1 hit and walked 1.
 
Scottie Metrejean singled and doubled for the Lady Bears.
 
LSUE 9-SMCC 0: The Lady Bengals of Eunice scored all the runs they would need with 2 in the top of the 1st inning.
 
Latham took the loss in the circle, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 5 hits and 2 talks in 4.1 innings. She struck out 5 batters.
 
Shelby Mason and Madison Moak both had 2 singles for the Lady Bears.
 
COASTAL ALABAMA SOUTH 13-SMCC 6: The Lady Beards sent 10 batters to the plate in taking a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. Two of the runs came via a Macie Mileysingle.
 
The score went to 6-0 in the Lady Bears' 3rd when Latham blasted a lead-off homer.
 
Coastal began its comeback with a pair of runs in the top of the 4th inning.

They would go on to score 5 runs in the 5th inning, 1 in the 6th and 6 more in the 7th to get the win.
 
Latham took the loss in the circle, giving up 4 runs on 3 hits and a pair of walks in 2 innings of work.
 
Metrejean had 2 singles in the game.
 
HIGHLAND (KS) 5-SMCC 4: The Lady Bears trailed 5-0 going into the bottom of the 4th inning when Latham singled to score Moak and make the score 5-1.
 
Mason's 2-RBI double in the Lady Bears' 5th made the score 5-3. The
 
The Lady Bears then scored what proved to be the final runs of the game on an error in the 6th inning when Ryleigh McManus crossed the plate.
 
Latham again took the loss in the circle after allowing 5 runs on a pair of hits and 3 walks in 4 innings. She struck out 1 batter.
 
The Lady Bears return to the diamond on March 4 when they pay a visit to Baton Rouge Community College for a 3:00 doubleheader.
