Lady Bears softball takes a pair from Mississippi Delta

The Lady Bears ran their record to 5-2 on the season with a 4-1, 7-3 Wednesday afternoon doubleheader sweep of the visiting Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans.
 
Jenna Brock led off the Lady Bears' 3rd inning of the opener with a triple and scored later on a Madison Newman ground out. An RBI base hit from Jade Latham then put the Lady Bears on top 2-0. Latham would later add another base hit.
 
After the visitors scored their run in the top of the 6th, an RBI double from Brock and Madison Moak's run-scoring single, her 2nd hit of the game, gave the Lady Bears the final runs of the game.
 
Latham went the distance in the circle, giving up a run on five hits and two walks, while striking out 12 in recording the win for the Lady Bears.

Shelby Mason had a pair of hits in the game.
 
Brock started the bottom of the first in the nightcap with a double, the first of her three hits in the game, and later scored on a Madison Moak ground out to put the Lady Bears on top 1-0.
 
Mississippi Delta scored three times in the top of the 2nd to take a 3-1 lead.
 
Mason's double in the bottom of the 5th scored two runs and tied the game at 3-3.
 
The Lady Bears scored the final runs of the game in their half of the 6th on an error, Latham's RBI double (her 3rd hit of the game and 2nd double) and Ryleigh McManus (her 2nd hit of the game) and Mason's RBI-single (her 3rd hit of the game).

Mississippi Delta loaded the bases in the top of the 7th inning, but failed to score as the Lady Bears held on for the win.
 
Allie Hunt went 6.2 innings in the circle in recording the win. She allowed three unearned runs on six hits and five walks while striking out seven batters. Mikenzi Authement retired the only batter she faced in the 7th to record the save.
 
The Lady Bears return to the field Saturday against LSU-Eunice at 4:00 and Marion Military Institute at 6:00 in the Juco Classic in Brandon.
