Bears fall to host Co-Lin in start of Coca-Cola Baseball Challenge

Game one of the Coca-Cola Baseball Challenge presented by Powerade went the way of the home team Tuesday night as the Bears dropped a 9-5 decision to host Co-Lin.
 
The Bears took a 2-0 lead in their half of the 2nd inning when Parker Phillips, on base via a leadoff walk, scored on a wild pitch. Easton Porter, on base after being hit by a pitch, later scored on the front end of a double steal.
 
The score went to 4-0 in the Bears' 3rd on a Keith McKigney RBI single and a run-scoring hit by Porter. Porter later added another single.
 
With the score tied 4-4 in the top of the 7th, the Bears regained the lead at 5-4 on a Mason Barker solo homer to centerfield. Barker also had a single in the game.
 
Co-Lin (3-3) answered with three runs in the bottom of the 7th to move out to a 7-5 lead. They would add the final runs of the game in the bottom of the 8th.
 
Jack Hilton took the loss on the mound for the Bears (2-7) after surrendering four runs on five hits in one inning.
 
DJ Lewis had two hits in the game for the Bears.
 
The Bears return to action on Saturday when they host the Delgado Community College Dolphins in a scheduled 1:00 twinbill.
