Bears' season ends with Homecoming loss to Gulf Coast

One of the most unusual football seasons ever came to an end for the Bears Friday afternoon as they dropped a 40-3 Homecoming decision to the visiting Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs.
 
The Bears trailed 13-0 at the end of the first quarter.
 
After Gulf Coast went up 19-0 in the second quarter, the Bears scored their only points of the game when Josh Massa made good on a 27-yard field goal with 4:01 on the clock to make the score 19-3.
 
Gulf Coast scored once more in the second quarter to take a 26-3 lead into intermission before going on to record the 37-point victory.
 
Jerome Dudley went 4-16 through the air for the Bears for 55 yards. Vakeilon Campbell carried the ball 11 times for 35 yards.
 
The Bears (0-6) had 11 first downs in the game and were whistled for one penalty for 10 yards. Massa averaged 31.7 yards on six punts.
 
Philip Short completed 24 of 30 passes for 343 yards and three touchdowns to pace Gulf Coast (4-0). Micah McGowan carried the ball 13 times for 99 yards and a score.
 
Gulf Coast recorded 22 first downs on the afternoon and were penalized 13 times for 112 yards. Caden Davis punted 4 times for 29.8 yards.
