Latham, Nations power Lady Bears to game two win over 6th-ranked Itawamba

Home runs from Jade Latham and Josey Nations helped power the Lady Bears to a 6-2 win over the 6th-ranked Itawamba Lady Indians Sunday afternoon in game two of the final regular-season MACJC doubleheader for both teams. Itawamba won the opener 11-3 in five innings.
 
The Lady Bears ended the regular season with a 29-13 overall record and, at 16-12, in 7th place in the MACJC (the 16 conference wins tied the team record). Itawamba ended the regular season at 33-12-1, 23-5 (2nd in the MACJC).
 
The Lady Bears and Itawamba will meet again on Wednesday at 2:30 in the opening round of the MACJC state tournament (being hosted by the Jones Lady Bobcats). The game is scheduled for a 2:30 first pitch.
 
Down 2-0 in game two Sunday, the Lady Bears tied the game at 2-2 in their half of the first on a two-out RBI single by Latham and a bases-loaded walk to Madison Gower.
 
Jordan McNabb's two-out RBI double, the first of her two hits in the game, put the Lady Bears on top 3-2 in the bottom of the second. Latham's first-pitch leadoff homer in the third inning then increased the Lady Bears' lead to 4-2.
 
The Lady Bears added the final runs of the game with two outs in the bottom of the sixth when Nations sent a pitch over the centerfield fence for a two-run homer. She also had a double in the game.
 
Latham went the distance in the circle to extend her team-record single-season win total to 14. She allowed two runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out three.
 
Carrington Jefcoat had two singles for the Lady Bears. She ended the regular season with a team career-record 55 RBI.
 
In game one, the Lady Bears took a 2-0, first-inning lead on an RBI single from Jefcoat and a Gower sacrifice fly.
 
Itawamba exploded for nine runs in the top of the second to take a 9-2 lead. They then added two runs in the third.
 
The Lady Bears picked up their final run of the game in the fifth inning when Tia Bussey reached base on a lead-off walk and later scored on a passed ball.
 
Kalyn Chemin took the loss in the circle, giving up six runs on two hits and two walks in 1.1 innings. She struck out two batters.
