Lady Bears fall twice at 3rd-ranked Jones

Clinch playoff spot with Pearl River losses

The Lady Bears dropped an MACJC doubleheader in Ellisville Tuesday evening as the 3rd-ranked Jones Lady Bobcats were victorious 16-6 in five innings and 9-0 in six innings.
 
Despite the losses, the Lady Bears (28-13, 15-11) clinched a spot in next week's state tournament due to Tuesday's doubleheader loss by Pearl River.
 
In the opener, Jones scored all the runs they would need with an eight-run first inning. They added seven more in the second.
 
The Lady Bears made it 15-1 in the third inning on Josey Nations RBI single, the first of her two hits in the game. They got on the board again in the fourth on a Carrington Jefcoat solo homer to centerfield.
 
The final runs of the game for the Lady Bears came in the top of the fifth. Madison Gower sent one run home on a triple while Madison Newman singled in a run. Pinch runner Devin Frierson scored on a ground out while Tia Bussey, on base with a single, scored on an error.
 
Jordan McNabb took the loss in the circle, allowing 13 runs (five earned) on six hits and two walks in one full inning. Josey Nations had two hits for the Lady Bears. 
 
Jones (39-6, 23-3) scored all the runs they would need in the finale with a two-run third inning.
 
Jade Latham took the loss. She surrendered nine runs on nine hits and five walks while striking out one in 5.2 innings in the circle. Nations had a double in the game.

The Lady Bears close out the regular season at home Saturday with a 2:00 MACJC twin bill against the 6th-ranked Itawamba Lady Indians.
