Latham pitches Lady Bears to doubleheader split at Northwest

The Lady Bears used the arm of pitcher Jade Latham to pick up an MACJC doubleheader split with host Northwest Mississippi Sunday afternoon with a 4-0 game-two win. Northwest captured the opener 5-0.
 
Latham went the distance in the circle, allowing only four hits while striking out eight as the Lady Bears finished the day with a 28-11 overall mark (15-9 in the MACJC).
 
Latham also scored the first run of the game for the Lady Bears to put them on top 1-0 in the second inning. After reaching base on a two-out walk, she crossed the plate when Terrah Nelson reached on an error.
 
The score went to 2-0 in the third inning when Jordan McNabb walked with two outs and scored two batters later when Madison Gower reached on another Northwest miscue.
 
A two-run double from Josey Nations in the top of the fourth ended the scoring and gave the Lady Bears their final margin of victory.
 
Northwest (6-33, 5-19) scored two runs in the third inning and three in the fourth to get the game-one win.
 
McNabb took the loss in the circle, giving up five runs (two earned) on eight hits in 3.1 innings. She struck out one batter.
 
The Lady Bears return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Ellisville to face the 3rd-ranked Jones Lady Bobcats. Game one of the conference doubleheader is set for a 4:00 first pitch.
