Lady Bears get road sweep of East Mississippi

The Lady Bears returned to the win column Saturday afternoon in Scooba with a 7-3 and 15-10 MACJC doubleheader sweep over the host East Mississippi Lady Lions.
 
The Lady Bears trailed game on 3-0 before, with two outs and two on, Madison Newman launched the first pitch she saw over the centerfield fence to knot the game at 3-3.
 
Terrah Nelson's RBI base hit in the top of the sixth then gave the Lady Bears (27-10, 14-8) their first lead of the game, 4-3.
 
Madison Gower picked up the final runs of the game in the top of the seventh with a three-run homer. She also tripled in the game.
 
Jade Latham picked up the win in the circle, giving up three runs on five hits and six walks in five innings of work. She struck out seven batters. Josey Nations doubled twice and had a single.
 
In the top of the first in game two, Gower's two-RBI single, the first of her two hits, gave the Lady Bears a 2-0 advantage.
 
The Lady Bears made the score 5-0 in the top of the second after Nelson reached base on a two-out double and scored following Ryleigh McManus' base hit and Nations drove in two runs with a single.
 
East Mississippi (7-24, 7-19) then broke out their bats with six runs in the fourth inning and another in the fifth to take a 7-5 lead.
 
The Lady Bears quickly regained the lead in the top of the sixth, scoring nine runs to make the score 14-7. McManus accounted for three of the runs with a homer while Newman had a two-RBI double. Newman also had two singles in the game.
 
McManus' third hit of the game, in the top of the seventh, drove in the Lady Bears' final run of the game and extended their lead to 15-7.
 
East Mississippi scored three runs in their half of the seventh, but it would not be enough as the Lady Bears recorded the win.
 
Kalyn Chemin picked up the win in relief, giving up four runs (two earned) on two hits and three walks in 2.1 innings in the circle. She struck out three batters.
 
Nations had four hits in the game while Tia Bussey had three hits and Jordan McNabb two.
 
The Lady Bears return to the diamond Sunday afternoon in Senatobia as they face the Northwest Lady Rangers in a 2:00 conference doubleheader.
