7th-ranked Gulf Coast takes two from Lady Bears

Sophomore Day did not go as planned for the Lady Bears Wednesday afternoon as they dropped a doubleheader to the 7th-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs in Summit, 12-1 and 8-3. Game one was ended after six innings.
 
The losses dropped the Lady Bears' record to 25-10 overall; their 12-8 conference mark left them in 5th place in the MACJC. Gulf Coast climbed to 25-9, 17-3.
 
Pinch runner Tyranesha Davis scored from third base on an error in the fourth inning to give the Lady Bears their only run in game one.
 
Jordan McNabb took the loss in the circle, allowing six runs (three earned) on 11 hits and a walk in 4.1 innings.
 
The Lady Bears trailed 6-0 in the fourth inning of the finale before McNabb's leadoff homer to centerfield made the score 6-1.
 
With the score 8-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Bears reached the final score with RBI singles from Josey Nations and Carrington Jefcoat.
 
Jade Latham took the loss in the circle, giving up eight runs (five earned) on nine hits and six walks in seven innings. She struck out four batters. Scottie Metrejean had a double for the Lady Bears.
 
The Lady Bears take to the road for their next games as they visit the East Mississippi Lady Lions Saturday afternoon in Scooba. Game one of the conference twin bill is set for a 1:00 first pitch.
