Lady Bears set team record for wins with sweep at Coahoma

The Lady Bears made team history Wednesday afternoon in Clarksdale as they swept the host Coahoma Lady Tigers, 9-0 and 13-3 in MACJC action. Game one ended after five innings and game two after six.

The wins left the Lady Bears with an overall record of 25-8, the 25 wins being a team record. Their 12-6 conference record puts them in a three-way tie for 3rd place in the MACJC with East Central and Northeast Mississippi.
 
The Lady Bears held a 4-0 lead after the first two innings of game one following RBI singles from Tia Bussey and Josey Nations and sacrifice flies from Jordan McNabb and Terrah Nelson.
 
Jami Spears, on base via a single, scored on a Madison Gower ground out in the top of the third to extend the Lady Bears' lead to 5-0.
 
A run-scoring double from Carrington Jefcoat (her second two-base hit of the game), a Bailey Sartin sacrifice fly and two Coahoma errors gave the Lady Bears their final runs of the game in their half of the fourth inning.
 
McNabb gave up two hits in four innings in the circle to pick up the win for the Lady Bears.
 
The Lady Bears held a 2-0 lead after the first inning of the finale after Bussey, on base with a single, scored on a passed ball and Madison Newman drove in a run with a base hit.
 
A pair of Coahoma errors and Ryleigh McManus' two-RBI double gave the Lady Bears five runs, and a 7-0 lead, in the top of the second inning.
 
A combination of errors by the Lady Bears and two base hits resulted in the only Coahoma (0-28, 0-20) runs of the day in the bottom of the fifth, leaving the Lady Bears with a 7-3 advantage.
 
The final runs of the game came in the top of the sixth. Jefcoat, Newman and Devin Frierson each singled in a run (Frierson's hit was her second of the game),a Coahoma error led to one run and Nelson had a two-RBI double (her second hit of the game) for the final runs of the day.
 
Jade Latham struck out four batters, and walked two, in four innings in the circle to record the win for the Lady Bears. Makennah Redd had a double in the game.
 
The Lady Bears take a few days off before returning to the diamond on April 24, when they will also mark Sophomore Day, to host the 10th ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs in a 3:00 conference doubleheader.
