Lady Bears win one, lose one at Meridian

The Lady Bears split an MACJC road doubleheader to the Meridian Lady Eagles Monday afternoon, taking the opener 6-2 before falling 4-1 in the finale.
 
The Lady Bears took a 3-0, first-inning lead with two out in game one on a Jordan McNabb solo homer to left field and Madison Gowers two run double.
 
The score went to 5-0 in the top of the fourth thanks to a Bailey Sartin two-RBI base hit to left field.
 
With the score 5-2 in the top of the sixth, the Lady Bears (23-8, 10-6) added the final run of the game on Tia Bussey's two-out base hit.
 
McNabb went the distance in the circle to get the win for the Lady Bears. She surrendered two unearned runs on four hits while striking out two.
 
Madison Newman had three hits in the game while Carrington Jefcoat had a double.
 
A run-scoring single from Newman, the first of her three hits in the game, put the Lady Bears on top 1-0 in the first inning of game two.
 
That proved to be all the offense the Lady Bears could muster in the game as the host Lady Eagles (17-13, 10-8) used three singles and a three-run homer in their half of the fourth to score all four of their runs.
 
Jade Latham took the loss in the circle, giving up four runs on six hits and a walk in 5.2 innings. She struck out six batters.
 
The Lady Bears remain on the road for their next conference games as they travel to Clarksdale on Wednesday to face the Coahoma Lady Tigers. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:00 first pitch.
