Bears drop MACJC doubleheader at Meridian

The Bears dropped an MACJC doubleheader at Meridian Saturday afternoon 8-5 and 4-0 despite getting 28 strikeouts from five pitchers and outhitting their hosts 18-13. Game one went 10 innings.
 
An RBI double from Michael Buck and a run-scoring single from Will Ford gave the Bears a 2-0 lead in the third inning of the opener. A two-
out, run-scoring single from DJ Lewis (the first of his two hits) increased the Bears' lead to 3-0 in the third inning.
 
Leading 3-2 in the top of the sixth, the Bears got a solo homer from Logan Larrimore to extend their lead to 4-2.
 
In their half of the seventh, Meridian (14-4, 3-1) scored a pair of runs to knot the game at 4-4. With neither team able to score in the eighth or ninth innings, the game went into extra play.
 
Ford, on base via a base hit, scored on a Larrimore sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th to give the Bears a 5-4 lead. But, Meridian used three singles, a fielder's choice and three-run homer in the bottom of the frame to pick up the win.
 
Keith McKigney took the loss on the mound in relief, giving up four runs on four hits in 0.2 of an inning. He struck out one batter. Starter Daren Smith struck out 13 batters, while allowing a pair of runs on three hits and five walks, in five innings.
 
Meridian took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of the nightcap enroute to the shutout win.
 
Matthew Graves took the loss on the mound, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits and a walk in six innings. He struck out nine batters.
 
Ford had a double for the Bears.
 
The Bears return home for their next games, hosting East Central Wednesday in a conference twin bill. Game one is scheduled for a 3:00 first pitch.
