Lady Bears get sweep at Holmes

The Lady Bears kept their winning streak alive Monday afternoon in Goodman as they swept the host Holmes Lady Bulldogs 4-2 and 8-6, in non-conference action, for their seventh and eighth consecutive wins.
 
With the wins, the Lady Bears moved to 14-3 overall (they are 1-1 in the MACJC).
 
The Lady Bears used the long ball-a solo homer from Madison Newman in the second inning and a two-run blast from Carrington Jefcoat in the third-to take a 3-0 lead in game one.
 
With the score 3-2 in the top of the seventh, Tia Bussey reached base with her third hit of the game. She scored the final run of the contest three batters later when Newman reached base on a fielder's choice.
 
Jordan McNabb picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Bears, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk in four innings. She struck out one batter and notched a double with her bat. Allie Hunt surrendered one hit in three innings to record the save.
 
Josey Nations' two-run triple was the big blow as the Lady Bears took a 5-0 third-inning lead in the finale.                                                                                                                                                
 After Holmes (3-18, 0-2 MACJC) scored three runs in their half of the fifth, the Lady Bears made the score 6-3 on Jefcoat's RBI triple (her second hit of the game) in the top of the sixth.
 
Holmes tied the game at 6-all with a three run bottom of the sixth.
 
An RBI base hit by Jade Latham and fielder's interference in the top of the seventh then gave the Lady Bears what proved to be the winning runs.
 
Latham allowed one hit and walked three batters, while striking out five, in five innings in the circle to get the win for the Lady Bears. 
 
The Lady Bears return to conference play Wednesday when they host Pearl River. Game one of the twin bill is scheduled to get underway at 3:00.
