Lady Bears sweep Mississippi Delta, extend win streak to six

The Lady Bears ran their winning streak to six games Saturday afternoon with a 9-1, 8-0 non-conference doubleheader sweep of the visiting Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans. Both games were halted after six innings.
 
A solo homer to left field from Jordan McNabb highlighted a two-run inning that saw the Lady Bears (12-3, 1-1 conference) take a 2-1 first-inning lead in game one. Scottie Metrejean's RBI base hit, the first of her two hits in the game, increased the Lady Bears' lead to 3-1 in the third inning.
 
Carrington Jefcoat singled to score a pair of runs for the Lady Bears, and McNabb had a run-scoring hit, to move the make the score 7-1 after four innings of play.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, Jefcoat's RBI double, her second hit of the game, and a Bailey Sartin RBI single closed out the scoring.
 
McNabb was the winning pitcher, giving up a run on two hits and two walks in five innings in the circle. She struck out three batters.
 
Madison Gower had a double and single for the Lady Bears while Madison Newman doubled.
 
An error allowed Tyranesha Davis, on base with the first of her two hits, score and give the Lady Bears a 1-0 first-inning lead in the finale. McNabb's double in the bottom of the third drove in a pair of runs to make the score 3-0 after three innings.
 
A Makennah Redd double, the first of her two hits in the game, and a two-RBI single from Gower gave the Lady Bears a 6-0 advantage at the end of four innings. The scoring came to an end in the sixth inning when Gower picked up an RBI base hit and Jefcoat smashed a solo homer to centerfield (Jefcoat also doubled in the game).
 
Jade Latham picked up the win in the circle, giving up six hits and striking out six, in five innings of work. Terrah Nelson and Ryleigh McManus both had a double in the game.
 
The Lady Bears return to the diamond on March 18 when they visit the Holmes Lady Bulldogs. Game one of the non-conference doubleheader is set for a 2:00 first pitch.
