Lady Bears get home sweep of BRCC

The Lady Bears ran their record on the young season to 3-1 Wednesday afternoon with a 3-1, 7-2 sweep at home of Baton Rouge Community College.
 
Tia Bussey led off game one for the Lady Bears with a single. After stealing second and third, she scored on a passed ball to make the score 1-0.
 
The score went to 2-0 in the Lady Bears' third when Josey Nations reached on a lead-off base hit and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly.
 
The final run of the game for the Lady Bears came in the fourth when Bussey's RBI single plated Linley Smith.
 
Baton Rouge avoided the shutout with a single run in the top of the seventh.
 
Jade Latham struck out 10 batters, allowed only two hits and walked a batter to get the complete-game win in the pitching circle.
 
Jordan McNabb had a double for the Lady Bears.
 
The Lady Bears took a 4-0 first-inning lead in the nightcap. With the bases loaded, a hit batter and walk scored two runs. A sacrifice fly by Nations and passed ball accounted for the other two runs in the frame.
 
A McNabb base hit and a Bussey steal of home made the score 6-0 in the bottom of the second.
 
Baton Rouge (0-5) scored single runs in their half of the fourth and fifth innings to make the score 6-2.
 
The final run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth when Terrah Nelson doubled to centerfield with one out and scored four batters later on a Baton Rouge error.
 
McNabb was the winning pitcher, giving up a run on three hits and a walk in four innings in the circle. She struck out one batter.
 
The Lady Bears return to the diamond on Friday when they host Coastal Alabama in a 1:00 double dip.
