Bears split doubleheader at Baton Rouge CC

A two-RBI double from Michael Buck in the top of the seventh helped the Bears defeat host Baton Rouge Community College Wednesday night, 6-4, in the opening game of their doubleheader. Baton Rouge would win the finale by the same score to avoid the sweep.
 
The Bears (2-2) trailed 3-0 in the top of the second in game one before Logan Larrimore doubled and scored on an error. Cody Ellzey then drove in a run with a base hit to make the score 3-2.
 
With the score 4-2 in the Bears' seventh, a bases-loaded walk to Keith McKigney plated one run. After Buck's double, Larrimore's fourth hit of the game drove home what proved to be the final run of the game.
 
Rob James went 3.1 innings on the mound in relief to pick up the win for the Bears. He surrendered one hit and struck out three batters while walking a pair. McKigney recorded the save with a strikeout in 0.2 of an inning.
 
Britt Netterville had a double for the Bears.
 
In the nightcap, Baton Rouge (3-9) held a 5-0 lead after two innings. The Bears made it 5-2 in their half of the third when Ellzey, on base via  walk, scored when Larrimore was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Paco Bello scored a run with a sacrifice fly.
 
Landon Stewart led off the Bears' fifth with a solo homer over the left field fence. Later in the inning, Larrimore singled and later crossed the plate, to make the score 5-4, on Buck's ground out. Baton Rouge added the final run of the game in the bottom of the inning.
 
Jack Hilton took the loss on the mound for the Bears, giving up five runs on six hits and two walks in two innings of work. He struck out four batters.
 
The Bears are scheduled to return to the diamond on Saturday when they host Frontier (IL) Community College in a 12:00 double header.
