#2 Gulf Coast defeats Bears

The 2nd-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs proved to be too much for the Bears Saturday afternoon as they capped their Homecoming with a 55-24 win.
 
A pair of Chance Levertich to Marquise Bridges touchdown passes helped the hosts take a 14-0 lead after one quarter of play. Kaden Davis kicked the extra points.
 
The Bears closed the gap to 14-10 early in the second quarter on a Brazos Webb 31-yard field goal and Zarious Keyes' one-yard dash into the end zone. Webb booted the extra point.
 
Gulf Coast (6-0, 2-0 MACJC South) added a pair of late touchdowns in the quarter to take a 28-10 lead into intermission.
 
Gulf Coast scored a trio of touchdowns in the third quarter, along with Davis' extra point kicks, to increase their advantage to 48-10 with one quarter remaining.
 
The Bears (0-6, 0-4 MACJC South) got back on the board with 10:06 left in the fourth quarter. Vakeilon Campbell scampered 10 yards to pay dirt and Webb added the extra point to make the score 48-17.
 
Gulf Coast then added their final points of the afternoon with 2:21 to go to make the score 55-17.
 
The Bears then notched what proved to be the final points of the game, with 0:39 on the clock, on a 25-yard by score Dalyn McDonald and Webb's PAT.
 
Ja'Tyler Moore went 3-3 passing, for 90 yards, to pace the Bears' offense.

The Bears had 11 first downs in the game and were penalized six times for 38 yards. Jack Runnels averaged 28 yards on seven punts.
 
Levertich led the Gulf Coast offense with 322 yards, and five touchdowns, on 22 of 30 passing.
 
The hosts tallied 26 first downs in the game and were whistled for 85 yards on nine penalties. Davis averaged 32 yards on two punts.
 
The Bears stay on the road for their next game as they travel to Poplarville on October 12 for a 2:00 South Division matchup with Pearl River.
