The Jones College Bobcats proved themselves worthy of their status as the 9th best team in the NJCAA as they subdued the Bears 51-21 in Ellisville Thursday night.

In the early going, it appeared the game might be closer than anticipated as the teams battled to a 7-7 tie after the opening quarter. The Bobcats (4-1, 3-0 MACJC South) drew first blood with 11:29 on the clock when Natorian Watts ended their opening drive with a five-yard scoring reception. Cristofer Thompson booted the extra point.

The Bears knotted the score just over 4:00 later when Zarious Keyes capped a four-play, 70-yard march with a three-yard scamper into the end zone. Brazos Webb kicked the extra point. The score was set up by a 57-yard run by Anthony Jones.

Unfortunately for the Bears, the rest of the night belonged to the Bobcats. The hosts scored four times in the second quarter to take a 35-14 lead at halftime. The Bears' touchdown came on a 71-yard pass from Da'Bryan Magee to Anthony Jones with 6:03 left in the quarter. Webb again kicked the extra point.

The Bobcats picked up two touchdowns in the third quarter, one coming on a fumble recovery, to lead 48-21. The Bears scored their final touchdown of the night on a 67-yard run by Devante Johnson. Webb added the final extra point on the night for the Bears.

A 35-yard Thompson field goal with 3:18 left in the fourth quarter gave the Bobcats their final points of the game.

"Our hats off to Jones," said Bears head coach Tim Stowers. "They have a better football team; they beat us soundly. But, I can find a lot of positives on both sides of the ball.  But, I can also find a lot of things we have to work on. So, I'm not discouraged at all. I'm more encouraged than discouraged at this point in time."

Johnson carried the ball 11 times for the Bears (1-4, 0-3 South) for 97 yards with one touchdown. Keyes had 40 yards and a score on 10 carries.

Magee went 4-11 passing for 85 yards and a touchdown. Jones had a 71-yard scoring catch.

The Bears six first downs in the game and were penalized six times for 35 yards. Jack Runnels punted seven times for 32.7 yards.

Stetson Bennett topped the Bobcats' offense with 179 yards on 16 of 29 passing three touchdowns. The Bobcats had 17 first downs in the game.

The Bears return home for their next contest, hosting the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs on October 4 at 7:00
