Lady Bears drop a pair to visiting Co-Lin

Lady Bears vs. Co-Lin

Softball | 3/7/2018 12:33:00 AM

The Coca-Cola Challenge ended on a bitter sweet note for the Lady Bears Tuesday night as they dropped an MACJC home doubleheader to arch-rival Co-Lin 4-2 and 5-3.

However, due to the fact that the teams split their four games, the Lady Bears maintained possession of the Challenge trophy for one more year.

Co-Lin took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first in game one. The Lady Bears made it 2-1 in the bottom of the frame when a bases-loaded walk to
Madison Bates scored
Kayla McNabb, also on base via a walk.

After Co-Lin (12-7, 5-1) made it 3-1 in the top of the fifth, the Lady Bears (9-7, 2-4) tallied what proved to be their last run of the game in their half of the fifth when Bates scored after
Terrah Nelson reached on an error.

Co-Lin then added the final run of the game in the top of the sixth.

Kassie Shipley took the loss in the circle for the Lady Bears. In five innings of work, she surrendered three runs on seven hits while walking two. Carrington Jefcoat and
Jami Spears both had a single.

A Kayla McNabb homer to left field put the Lady Bears on top 1-0 in the top of the first in game two. Co-Lin then scored twice in the top of the third and three more in the top of the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth,
Ashley Elsensohn singled with two outs and scored on Kayla McNabb's triple. Miranda Magee then sent McNabb home with her third base hit of the game to make the score 5-3. That, unfortunately, would be the last run of the game for the Lady Bears as Co-Lin held on for the win and the sweep.

Jordan McNabb took the loss in the circle, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks in 4.1 innings. She struck out one batter.

The Lady Bears return to action on Friday when they travel to Goodman to face the Lady Bulldogs of Holmes. Game one is scheduled to get underway at 2:00.
