Bears drop wild one at Co-Lin

The baseball side of the Coca-Cola Challenge presented by Powerade got underway Tuesday night in Wesson with the Bears coming out on the short end of a wild 13-11 contest against arch-rival Co-Lin.
 
The Bears trailed 7-0 before getting on the board in the top of the fourth inning. T Tez Cole, Isaiah Davis and Tyler White each had an RBI single in the frame while the Bears added four runs via Co-Lin errors to knot the game at 7-7.
 
In the top of the sixth, a Cole homer over the centerfield fence was the big blow as the Bears scored three times to take a 10-7 lead. Co-Lin (8-2) then scored four runs in their half of the sixth and two more in the seventh to move out to a 13-10 lead.
 
The Bears then picked up what proved to be the final run of the game in the top of the eighth when Michael Buck sent a pitch over the fence in left field for his third hit of the game.
 
Matthew Graves took the loss on the mound for the Bears (1-8), giving up four runs on five hits and a walk in three innings of work. He struck out three batters. Paco Bello and Zach Dearman both had a pair of hits for the Bears.

The Bears return to the diamond Friday afternoon when they host the Highland (IL) College Cougars in a 2:00 doubleheader.
