Lady Bears swept at Hinds

The Lady Bears were swept in an MACJC doubleheader in Raymond Wednesday afternoon, falling to the host Hinds Lady Eagles 11-3 and 12-2. Both games ended after five innings.
 
The Lady Bears took a 2-0 first-inning lead in the opener when Ashley Elsensohn walked and Terrah Nelson singled to open the game and both scored on an error. In the bottom of the frame, three singles and a hit batter allowed Hinds to tie the game at 2-2.
 
After Hinds took a 4-2 lead in their half of the third, the Lady Bears made it 4-3 in the top of the fourth when Madison Bates blasted a pitch over the centerfield fence. She also had a double in the contest.
 
Hinds (16-9, 8-4) added three runs in the bottom of the fourth and closed out the game with four more in the bottom of the fifth.
 
Kassie Shipley took the loss in the circle, giving up nine runs (eight earned) on 10 hits and a walk in four innings of work. She struck out one batter.
 
Trailing 1-0 in the nightcap, the Lady Bears (10-12, 3-9) tied the game in the top of the third when Makennah Redd walked to open the inning and scored four batters later on a passed ball.
 
Hinds regained the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs to go up 4-1.
 
An error allowed pinch runner Tia Bussey to score from third in the top of the fifth to make the score 4-2.
 
Sending 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the fifth, Hinds scored eight runs to end the game.
 
Mikaela Smith took the loss in the circle, surrendering 12 runs (four earned) on 15 hits and a pair of walks in 4.2 innings. She struck out two batters. Bates, Elsensohn, Redd and
Melanie Crum each had a single in the game.
 
The Lady Bears return home for their next games, hosting Northwest on Friday in a 2:00 conference twinbill.
