Thursday night proved to be a long one for the Bears as they dropped a 56-7 decision at home to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs.

Gulf Coast (4-2, 1-2 MACJC South) scored the only points of the first quarter, with 9:38 on the clock, when Omni Wells capped a nine-yard, 87-yard drive with a two-yard scamper into the end zone. Mason Hunt booted the extra point to make the score 7-0.

The Bears (1-5, 0-4 MACJC South) trailed 21-0 before getting their only points in the second quarter. A 21-yard touchdown pass from Da'Bryan Magee to Johnny Wilson put the halt to a nine-play, 80-yard drive. Brazos Webb kicked the extra point to make the score 21-7 with 5:58 on the clock.

Gulf Coast added another touchdown late in the quarter to take a commanding 28-7 lead at intermission.

The second half was all Gulf Coast as the visitors added 21 points in the third quarter and seven in the fourth to seal the win.

"When we watch the game film, we'll find some positives. You always do," said Bears head coach Tim Stowers. "But, we got beat by a much better football team tonight and it shows just how much farther we've got to go to play with the upper echelon teams in this league."

"We've got a long way to go," Stowers continued. "I knew that when I took the job and what we're going to do is keep the faith, fight the fight and play one play then play the next then play the next then the next and see if we can be a much better football at the end of the season than we were at the beginning."

Zarious Keyes led the Bears ground game with 45 yards on 10 carries. Magee carried the ball 13 times for 33 yards.

Through the air, Magee completed six of 19 passes for 95 yards, including a 21-yard scoring strike to Wilson.

The Bears registered 13 first downs in the game and were penalized six times for 57 yards. Jack Runnels provided a bright spot for the Bears with six punts for 43.2 yards.

Gulf Coast's offense was led by quarterback Chance Lovertich who completed 25 of 28 passes for 385 yards. He threw six touchdowns.

The Bears return to the gridiron on October 13 when the celebrate homecoming with a 5:00 contest against the Pearl River Wildcats.
