Bears advance in MACJC post-season with 3-0 win at Hinds

The Bears advanced one step closer to their first-ever MACJC state soccer championship Thursday night as they opened post-season play with a 3-0 win over the Hinds Eagles in Raymond."
 
With the win, the Bears (12-2-1) advanced to the semi-finals Saturday, at 2:30, where they will face South Division foe Pearl River for the third time this season. The remainder of the MACJC playoffs will be at Jones College in Ellisville.
 
At the 35:10 mark, Joaquin Bermejillo sent a corner kick into Felipe Madero at the back post. Madero the one-touched it in the goal for a 1-0 lead for the Bears.
 
The Bears' advantage stayed at 1-0 until 71:35 when Nate Bond played a through ball to Madero who then went one-on-one with the Hinds keeper and crushed the ball into the goal to make the score 2-0.
 
With 22:00 left in the game, Bond played a through ball into to Patrick Larsen who finished it into the back of the net for his 20th goal of the season and the Bears' final goal of the game.
 
"Tonight was step one," said Bears head coach Alex Brown. "Anytime you have to travel in the playoffs it's always a tall task, but we came out and took care of business. Hinds has a good team. They were very physical and made us earn everything, but that only makes victory that much sweeter."
 
"We will enjoy the win tonight," Brown continued, "but our focus is turning toward Pearl River now. There is still much more to be done."
