Bears drop close one at home to Co-Lin

The Bears gave it their best shot Monday night, but in the end it proved to be not quite enough as they dropped a tough 83-79 MACJC South Division decision at home to arch-rival Co-Lin.
 
The Bears (12-2, 3-2) took their first lead of the night, 5-4, on a Jeremy Harrell jumper with 17:11 left in the first half.
 
After Co-Lin took an 11-8 lead, Harrell and Antonio Cowart, Jr., combined for five points to put the Bears back on top, 13-11, with 14:03 before halftime.
 
Co-Lin then scored the next five points to take a 16-13 lead with 13:14 on the clock.
 
With the score tied 18-18, the Bears went on a 9-1 run and went up 27-19 on a T J Ben trey with 5:43 showing. Co-Lin then went on a run of their own, 12-4, to tie the game at 31-31 with 1:03 before intermission.

A pair of Howard Smith free throws put the Bears on top 33-31 with under 1:00 on the clock and they took a 33-32 advantage into the locker room at intermission.
 
With 14:53 left in the game, the Bears took their largest lead of the night, 49-42, on a Cowart, Jr., three pointer.
 
Co-Lin (13-1, 4-1) then went on a 17-4 run to move out to a 59-53 lead with 10:41 still to play. They took their largest lead of the game, 73-61, with 6:07 to go.
 
The Bears then regained their form, scoring 13 of the next 18 points, pulling to within four on an Aleksa Dobrijevic free throw with 1:56 left.
 
Down 80-74, the Bears used free throws from Cowart, Jr., and John Knight III to pull to within 82-79 with 0:22 on the clock. But, that would prove to be as close as they would get as Co-Lin held on for the slim four-point win.
 
Cowart, Jr., scored 20 points for the Bears to lead all scorers. Harrell was also in double figures, with 13 points, as was Knight III (12). The Bears were 27-45 from the free throw line.
 
Anthony Jones scored 16 points to lead Co-Lin. The visitors were 16 of 26 at the free throw line.
 
The Bears hit the road for their next contest, the first of two straight away from home, as they visit the Hinds Bulldogs Thursday night in Utica. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 start.
