Lady Bears end regular season with losses at Northeast

Begin postseason play Friday at Jones County

The regular season came to a close for the Lady Bears Wednesday evening in Booneville as the host Northeast Mississippi Lady Tigers captured a pair of close MACJC contests, 3-2 and 8-7. The final game went nine innings.

The Lady Bears finished the regular season with an overall record of 18-25 and a conference mark of 14-14. Northeast closed out the regular season at 29-19, 15-13.

Despite the losses to Northeast, the Lady Bears have still qualified for the upcoming MACJC playoffs. Going in as the number eight seed, the Lady Bears will travel to Ellisville Friday and Saturday to face top-ranked Jones County. Friday's game is set for a 6:00 first pitch. Game two, on Saturday, will get underway at 1:00 with a third game, if necessary, set begin at 3:00.

The Lady Bears took a 1-0 first inning lead Wednesday when
Miranda Magee led off with a single and score two batters later on Jenna Duff's double to leftfield.

Two errors, a base hit and sacrifice fly resulted in two runs, and a 2-0 lead, for the Lady Tigers in the bottom of the third.

The Lady Tigers added a run, and increased their lead to 3-1, in the bottom of the fifth.

The Lady Bears closed the gap to 3-2 in the top of the seventh when
Kelcey Bremenkamp launched a pitch over the leftfield fence, her second hit of the game. That, unfortunately for the Lady Bears, would be the final run of the game.

Kassie Shipley took the loss in the circle, giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits. She struck out four batters. Amy Bonvillain had a single in the game.

The Lady Bears trailed 1-0 in the finale before tying the game at 1-1 in the top of the second. Bremenkamp led off the frame with a single then scored three batters later on a wild pitch.

Magee led off the Lady Bears' third inning with a double to leftfield and scored three batters later on Bremenkamp's single. After stealing second, Bremenkamp then crossed the plate following
Jordan Fitzgerald's base hit to put the Lady Bears on top 3-1.

The Lady Tigers answered with three runs in their half of the third to regain the lead at 4-3.

Both teams scored twice in the fourth inning to leave the Lady Tigers on top 6-5. The Lady Bears' runs came when Magee singled with two outs, stole second and scored on Duff's base hit. Duff then scored on a single by Jeney Hudson.

The Lady Bears took their final lead, 7-6, in the top of the sixth when Magee singled with two outs (the third of her four hits in the game) and scored on Duff's homer to leftfield.

The Lady Tigers forced the extra play with a run in the bottom of the seventh to knot the game at 7-7. They then won the game with a single and double in the bottom of the ninth.

Shipley took the loss in the circle for the Lady Bears, allowing two earned runs on six hits and a walk in four innings of relief work. She struck out two batters.

Gianca Holmes had a single for the Lady Bears
