Top-ranked Jones County defeats Lady Bears to open MACJC playoffs

The MACJC playoffs started on a sour note Friday evening for the Lady Bears as they dropped game one 10-2 to the top-ranked Jones County Lady Bobcats in Ellisville. The game was ended in the fifth inning.    
 
The Lady Bobcats (43-2) used a single and home run to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. They added six more runs in the third to extend their advantage to 8-0.
 
The bats came alive for the Lady Bears (18-26) in their half of the fourth. Miranda Magee and Jenna Duff led off with back-to-back singles. With one out,
Kelcey Bremenkamp's base hit scored Magee and Duff crossed the plate after a Jordan Fitzgerald base knock to make the score 8-2.
 
The hosts added the final two runs in the bottom of the fourth and retired the Lady Bears in order in the top of the fifth to seal the win.
 
Kassie Shipley took the loss in the circle for the Lady Bears, giving up eight runs (six earned) on seven hits and a walk in three innings of work.
 
The teams will play game two of the best of three series Saturday at 1:00, also in Ellisville. Game three, if necessary, is scheduled for a 3:00 start.
