Gulf Coast takes a pair from Bears in Perkinston

The host Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs took an MACJC doubleheader from the Bears Tuesday, winning game one 8-5 before taking the finale 11-1 (in five innings).
 
A double, an error, a walk and a sacrifice fly resulted in a 1-0 lead for the Bulldogs in the third inning in game one.
 
The Bears responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. Andrew Beesley, on base via a walk, scored when T Tez Cole reached base on a fielder's choice. Austin Moen followed Cole with a line-drive double to left field, the first of his two hits in the game, to score Brantley Hughes, on base with a walk.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, three triples and a dropped third strike allowed the Bulldogs (23-15, 12-10) to score a pair of runs and regain the lead at 3-2.
 
John Marcus McDowell and Beesley started the Bears' fifth inning with back-to-back singles. McDowell would later score on Chance Groue's second hit of the game and Beesley would cross the plate thanks to an error and put the Bears (13-26, 2-20) on top 4-3.
 
The Bulldogs reclaimed the lead for good in the sixth inning when they sent 11 men to the plate and scored five runs to go on top 8-4.
 
The Bears would record the final run of the game in the top of the seventh when Beesley led off with a base hit and score three batters later on Cole's second hit of the contest, a double to centerfield.
 
Gerald Groue took the loss for the Bears, giving up five runs (three earned) on eight hits and three walks in five innings on the mound. He struck out four batters.Ray Hutchinson had a base hit for the Bears.
 
The Bears took a 1-0, first-inning run in the nightcap when Beesley led off with a single, later moved to second on a passed ball and scored on Cole's base hit to centerfield.

A home run, triple, single and sacrifice fly resulted in a 3-1 lead for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the first. They would go on to get the 10-run win.
 
Josh Merchant took the loss on the mound for the Bears. In 1.1 innings of work, he surrendered five runs (three earned) on five hits and a pair of walks. Hutchinson and McDowell both singled in the game.
 
The Bears return to the diamond, and mark Miracle League Day, on Saturday when they host the Northeast Mississippi Tigers for a 1:00 conference doubleheader.
