Bears drop a pair at Coahoma

The Bears dropped a pair of MACJC games in Clarksdale Sunday afternoon, falling to the Coahoma Tigers 9-5 in the opener before dropping game two 6-5.

The Bears trailed 3-0 in game one before tying the game at 3-3 in the top of the fourth.
T Tez Cole led off the Bears' half of the frame with a homer to centerfield. Ray Hutchinson followed with a single past third base and scored on an Austin Moen double to left.Alex Smith then singled for the second time in the game, scoring courtesy runner Gerald Groue (on base for Moen).

In the top of the fifth,
Andrew Beesley reached base on a leadoff single and later scored on an error. Later in the inning, another miscue allowed Chance Groue, on base with a single, to cross the plate and put the Bears (13-24, 2-18) on top 5-3.

The lead was short-lived for the Bears, however, as the Tigers (16-20, 5-15) used a homer, double, walk and error to score three runs and regain the lead at 6-5 in their half of the fifth. They would go on to add three more runs in the bottom of the 8th enroute to the win.

Kyle Coleman took the loss on the mound for the Bears, giving up six runs (two earned) on four hits and a pair of walks. He struck out five batters. Scooter Ginn had a single for the Bears.

Beesley singled to lead off the Bears' first inning in game two. Moving to third on a wild pitch, he scored to give the Bears a 1-0 lead when
Chance Groue grounded out.

The Tigers took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first. They added three more in the bottom of the second to increase their lead to 6-1.

The Bears trimmed their deficit to 6-3 in the top of the third.
Crishaun Speight, on base for Fidel Bello (who had reached on a leadoff single) scored on a one-out passed ball. Later, Ginn, who was on base with a double, crossed the plate when Cole made it to first base via an error.

Moen singled to start the Bears' fourth inning, his second hit of the game, and moved to second when Smith was hit by a pitch. Later in the inning, Moen scored on a passed ball and Smith on Bello's sacrifice fly to narrow their gap to 6-5.

That, unfortunately, would be the last run of the game as the Tigers held on for the win and the sweep.

Tyler Pigott took the loss on the mound for the Bears. In six innings of work, he surrendered six runs (four earned) on four hits and three walks. He also struck out three.

Chance Groue and John Marcus McDowell both had a single for the Bears.

The Bears hit the road for the final time of the season on Tuesday when they race the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs in Perkinston. Game one of the conference doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00.
