Lady Bears get walk-off win in game two, sweep visiting Meridian

Morgan Webb's two-out single in the bottom of the 10th scored Gianca Holmes from second base and gave the Lady Bears a 6-5 game-two win, and MACJC doubleheader sweep, over the visiting Meridian Lady Eagles Wednesday night. The Lady Bears won the opener 7-0.

The sweep left the Lady Bears with a 14-15 overall mark and a 10-4 conference record. Meridian fell to 13-12, 8-8.

The Lady Bears took a 1-0 first-inning lead in the nightcap on
Kelcey Bremenkamp's homer over the right field fence. Jordan Fitzgerald's solo smash to left field made the score 2-0 after four innings.

Meridian tied the score at 2-2 on a solo homer by Jayla Poindexter in the top of the fifth and Alexandria Riser's long ball in the top of the seventh. With the Lady Bears unable to score in the bottom of the seventh, the game went into extra innings.

Riser's second homer of the game, in the top of the ninth, gave Meridian a 3-2 advantage. The Lady Bears responded in the bottom of the frame with a line-drive homer to center field by
Amy Bonvillain, her second hit of the game, to tie the game at 3-3.

Meridian regained the lead, 5-3, with a pair of runs in the top of the 10th. Then came the bottom of the inning. With
Lauren Walker on base, Fitzgerald sent the first pitch she saw flying over the fence in centerfield to tie the game at 5-5. Holmes followed with her second hit of the game before stealing second and scoring the winning run on Webb's walk-off hit.

Kassie Shipley pitched three innings in relief, giving up three runs on five hits with a strikeout, to get the win for the Lady Bears.

The Lady Bears took a 1-0 game-one lead in the bottom of the first.
Miranda Magee was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame and scored three batters later on Jeney Hudson's base hit.

The score went to 4-0 in the Lady Bears' second inning. Holmes led off with a line-drive double to centerfield and scored four batters later on a Magee single. Webb, on base via a walk, scored on a Bremenkamp ground out and
Jenna Duff's single scored Bonvillain who was on base with a single.

Magee singled and scored in the bottom of the fourth to increase the Lady Bears' lead to 5-0. Holmes, on base with her third hit of the game, scored on a
Kristie Sanchez hit in the fifth inning to make the score 6-0. The final run of the game came in the sixth inning when Fitzgerald's base hit scored Bremenkamp, on base after being hit by a pitch.

Shipley got the complete-game win in the circle after giving up only four hits while striking out four batters.

The Lady Bears were scheduled to travel to LSU-Eunice on Thursday, but those games have been postponed due to the threat of inclement weather. For that reason, the Lady Bears will next take the field, and observe Sophomore Day, on Saturday, April 1, with a home doubleheader against the Coahoma Lady Tigers. Game one is set to get underway at 1:00.
