East Central takes two from visiting Bears

The host East Central Warriors took a pair of close MACJC games from the Bears Tuesday night, winning game one 3-2 before taking game two 4-2.

The Bears will remain on the road for their next contests, traveling to Booneville Saturday for a conference doubleheader. Game one is set for a 1:00 first pitch.

A leadoff double to centerfield by
L.D. Coney, the first of his two hits in the game, and Kaleb Clarke's two-out double put the Bears (20-20, 9-15) on top 1-0 in the first inning of the opener.

A double and single allowed the Warriors to tie things at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning. They then took a 2-1 lead on Cole Prestegard's solo homer in their half of the third.

Steven Williams was hit by a pitch to start off the Bears' fourth inning. Moving to second on a Brady Anderson sacrifice bunt, Williams then scored on a Zach Giacona two-base hit to knot the score at 2-2.

Three singles and a sacrifice bunt resulted in the winning run crossing the plate for the Warriors (31-15, 19-9) in the bottom of the fifth.

Jacob Buchanan took the loss on the mound for the Bears, giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits and a walk in 7.2 innings. He struck out three batters.
Darian Tunstall had singles for the Bears.

The Bears trailed 4-0 in the finale before getting both their runs in top of the fifth inning. With Coney on base via a fielder's choice,
Ross Buckley sent the first pitch he saw flying over the fence in centerfield to draw the Bears back to within two runs (Buckley later added a double). That, however, would be as close as the Bears would get as the Warriors held on for the win.

Braden Smith spent three innings on the mound in taking the loss for the Bears. He surrendered four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two.

Walt Aldridge had a double and single for the Bears. Williams also had a double while Dylan Spiers had two singles.
