Lady Bears get school-record win in split with visiting Northeast

The Lady Bears made school history Saturday night with their 8-7 game-two win over the visiting Northeast Lady Tigers. Northeast survived a slugfest to win the opener 16-11.

The win gave the Lady Bears a program-record 23 wins (against 17 losses) and extended their program-record conference mark to 16-10.
The split left Northeast at 15-28 and 8-20.

Down 1-0 in game two, the Lady Bears took a 2-1 in the bottom of the first.
MCKENZIE BROCK led off with the first of her two hits in the game and scored on a
JESSIE PENTON double (she later added a single). Penton then scored on JENNA DUFF's base hit.

A home run and two singles allowed the Lady Tigers to score a pair of runs in the top of the second to take a 3-2 lead.

The Lady Bears then scored four times in the bottom of the second to go on top 6-3.
AUSTIN PRUITT provided the big blow of the inning with a three-run homer. With the homer, Pruitt set the Lady Bears' career record with her 52nd run scored.

The score went to 8-2 in the bottom of the fourth when
JANA MCEWEN singled and scored on an error that put Penton on base. Penton then scored on another error.

A two run homer allowed the Lady Tigers to narrow their deficit to 8-7 in the top of the fifth. But, they would be unable to score any additional runs as the Lady Bears held on for the win.

MACY FULTON pitched 4.1 innings to get the win in the circle. She surrendered seven runs on 11 hits and a walk while striking out four batters. REBECCA DAVIS went 2.2 innings, giving up two hits and walking a batter, to record the save.

Penton's leadoff homer put the Lady Bears on top 1-0 in the first inning of game one. A two run homer from Penton, the second of her three hits, then helped extend the home team's lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the second.

A three-run homer in the top of the third and two more round trippers in the fourth inning then left the visitors on top 10-7. In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Bears made it 10-8 when a
KELCEY BREMENKAMP sacrifice fly allowed KRISTIE SANCHEZ to score.

Four runs in the top of the fifth and two more in the top of the sixth extended the Lady Tigers' lead to 16-8.

The Lady Bears got three of the runs back in the bottom of the sixth when Bremenkamp singled for her second hit of the game (she had earlier doubled) and scored on an
EMILY TUMINELLO homer. A bases-loaded walk to KAYLA SANCHEZ scored another run to make the score 16-11.

That would be the last runs of the game as the Lady Tigers would go on to the five-run victory.

Davis took the loss in the circle, giving up nine runs (six earned) on 12 hits and two walks in 2 two innings. She struck out two batters.

Duff had three hits in the game while
JORDAN FITZGERALD and Kayla Sanchez both had two. McEwen and Pruitt both had a single.

The Lady Bears will try to extend their school-record win total Tuesday when they close out the regular season afternoon with a 1:00 home doubleheader against the 5th-ranked East Central Lady Warriors.
