Lady Bears drop home doubleheader to 7th-ranked Jones County

The Lady Bears dropped a pair of MACJC softball games to the visiting Jones County Lady Bobcats Tuesday afternoon, falling 9-1in the opener and 6-0 in the nightcap. Game one ended after six innings.

Using a pair of hits, two walks, two fielder's choices and an error, the 7th-ranked Lady Bobcats (16-3, 6-0) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first in game one. They then added a pair of runs in the top of the third to increase their lead to 5-0.

The Lady Bears (8-12, 1-5) made it 5-1 in their half of the third when
AUSTIN PRUITT singled with one out, moved to second on an error and crossed the plate on a KAYLA SANCHEZ base hit. Sanchez later added another single and a double.

The Lady Bobcats went on to score three more in the top of the fourth and a solo run in the top of the sixth.

REBECCA DAVIS took the loss in the circle for the Lady Bears, allowing nine runs (five earned) on 10 hits. She struck out two batters and walked three.

JORDAN FITZGERALD, JENEY HUDSON and JESSIE PENTON each had a single in the game for the Lady Bears.

In the finale, the visitors again scored the only runs they would need in the top of the first as a double, single and walked resulted in a 2-0 lead. The Lady Bobcats would add another pair of runs in the second and two more in the fifth to get the sweep.

MACY FULTON took the loss in the circle for the Lady Bears. She allowed all six runs on 10 hits while striking out three and walking three. MCKENZIE BROCK had a double and two singles for the Lady Bears. JENNA DUFF, Hudson, Pruitt and Penton each had a single.

"We've got to become the team that's not 'Hey, it's good to play a team like that close'," said Lady Bears head coach Shea Johnson. "We have the ability to be 'the team like that'. We've got to put the ball in play harder, get the ball through and find ways to get on base, find ways to score."

"We're playing well enough, defensively," Johnson continued. "We've just got to make the runs. We've got to produce when there are runners on the bases."

The Lady Bears scheduled to return to action on Friday in Moorhead when they visit the Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1:00.
