Lady Bears fall to Chipola College, East Central in Meridian tournament

The Lady Bears dropped a pair of games on the first day of the Meridian Community College tournament Friday, falling to NJCAA Division I powerhouse Chipola College 13-5 and 11-1 to MACJC foe East Central.
 
Opponents today for the Lady Bears in Meridian are the host Lady Eagles, at 11:00, and Bishop State at 1:00.
 
The Lady Bears (5-5) held their own against Chipola (13-2) through the five innings and held a 5-3 lead until the Lady Indians broke loose for six runs in the top of the sixth. They then added four more in the top of the seventh.
 
JESSIE PENTON topped the Lady Bears' offense with three hits, including a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth. EMILY TUMINELLO added two hits while JENEY HUDSON also hit safely.
 
Hudson took the loss in the circle, allowing eight runs on eight hits while striking out one and walking two.
 
The Lady Bears were limited to singles by Penton and KELCEY BREMENKAMP in their loss to the Lady Warriors (11-0). Their only run came in the top of the fourth when Penton reached base on an error and later scored on a passed ball.

REBECCA DAVIS took the loss, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits. She struck out one batter while issuing five bases on balls.
