Despite getting off to a fast start in Wesson Thursday night, it was just not to be for the Bears as they suffered a tough 67-58 loss to arch-rival Co-Lin.

The loss dropped the Bears to 12-8 overall. Their 7-5 MACJC South Division mark has them currently in fifth place, only a game out of fourth.

Three pointers from
Bryce Baker and Terrell Miller gave the Bears an early 6-0 lead. Miller's three, with 14:35 left in the first half, then put the Bears on top 12-2. But, Co-Lin fought back and scored the next 11 points to take a 13-12 lead with 7:06 on the clock.

A basket from Miller and
Sean Smith's three had the Bears back on top, 17-13, with 5:13 remaining. Miller scored with 2:38 on the clock to make the score 24-17 in favor of the Bears. Co-Lin then scored six of the final nine points of the half to leave the Bears with a 27-23 lead heading to the locker room.

Co-Lin scored the first five points of the second half to take a 28-27 lead with 18:29 left in the game. But, the Bears quickly bounced back and took a 38-32 lead on a
Lafayette Rutledge three pointer with 16:12 to play.

On top 42-36, the Bears watched Co-Lin go on a 12-0 run and regain the lead, 48-42, with 9:21 to go. But, the Bears answered with a 7-0 "mini run" and went back on top 49-48 on a
LeDerrius Simmons jumper with 7:13 to go.

Co-Lin (5-16, 3-9) answered with a 12-4 run that left them with a 60-53 advantage with 2:20 on the clock. A three pointer from Baker and a pair of free throws from
Emanuel Thompson brought the Bears back to within two, 60-58, with 0:55 showing. But, they would be unable to get any closer as Co-Lin scored the final seven points of the game to claim the win.

"I thought our focus was not there defensively (and) our focus was not there offensively," said Bears head man Thomas Gray. "We knew exactly what they were going to give us (and) they did exactly what we thought they were going to do and exactly what we've been working on for two days."

"Unfortunately, I just saw that our guys early on just did not have the mindset that we needed to be successful in a hostile environment like Co-Lin."

Miller led the Bears, and all scorers, with 23 points. Rutledge and Thompson also scored in double figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively. The Bears made six of seven free throws.

Co-Lin was led by Dalton Thompson's 21 points. Co-Lin made 17 of 22 free throws.

The Bears close out the home portion of their schedule Monday night when they host Jones County. Tipoff is set for 7:15.
