Bears fall hard to BRCC in Cola-Cola Classic opener

Visiting Baton Rouge Community College led from start to finish Monday night as they defeated the Bears 92-62 in the final game of the opening day of the Southwest/Coca-Cola Classic.
 
The Bears fell behind 6-0 early. Baskets from Mike Parks, Jr., and Antonio Cowart, Jr., then brought them back to within a point, 8-7, with 17:08 left in the first half. A 19-3 run then increased BRCC's lead to 27-10 with 9:38 on the clock.
 
The Bears pulled to within 13 points, 27-14, on two Jeremy Harrell free throws before BRCC pulled back out to a 37-16 lead with 6:44 before the half.
 
With the Bears (1-2) trailing 47-26 late in the half, two three-pointers and two free throws from Rodrick Sikes left them with a 47-34 deficit at the break.
 
Unfortunately for the Bears, the second half was all BRCC. The visitors went up by as many as 36 points, 88-52, with 5:11 to play before leaving the court with the 30-point win.
 
Sikes led the Bears, and all scorers, with 20 points. Harrell and Cowart, Jr., were also in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively. The Bears made good on 17 of 26 free throws.
 
Tory Ferguson led BRCC (4-0) with 19 points. The visitors made 13 of 21 free throws.
 
The Bears see their next action, and play the final game of the Coca-Cola Classic, Tuesday night at 7:15 with a matchup against the Jaguars of Southern-Shreveport.
