The Bears' season, and Homecoming festivities, came to a disappointing end Saturday night with a 42-13 loss to the visiting East Central Warriors.

The Bears finished the year with a 2-7 overall record and a 1-5 MACJC South record. The Warriors finished the season at 5-4 and won the South with a 5-1 mark.

The Bears took an early 3-0 lead when
Ruben Maldonado's 33-yard field goal closed out a seven-play, 66-yard drive with 12:19 left in the opening quarter.

Taking possession on their own 39-yard line following the ensuing kickoff, the Warriors needed 10 plays to get on the scoreboard with 7:36 on the clock. Quarterback Dom Marino did the honors with a two-yard dash into the end zone. Aaron Garrett added the PAT to put the visitors on top 7-3 after the first quarter.

The Warriors went up 14-3 with 9:13 left in the half when Marino found Antonio Gibson on the receiving end of a 40-yard touchdown pass. Garrett again added the extra point.

A 12-play, 75-yard drive by the Bears ended with a 35-yard Maldonado field goal that left the Bears down 14-6 at the end of the half.

The Warriors scored the only points of the third quarter, and increased their lead to 21-6, on 21-yard touchdown pass from Marino to Chris Deloach.

Closing out a 10-play, 70-yard drive that began in the third quarter, the Bears pulled to within 21-13 with 14:55 left in the game when
Casey Haygood reached pay dirt on a seven-yard carry. Maldonado booted the extra point.

The rest of the quarter belonged to the Warriors as they added three more touchdowns, two as a result of Bears' fumbles, to pick up the win. Garrett added all three extra points.

"I thought we struggled offensively," said Bears' head coach Tucker Peavey, "to get the ball into the end zone. We were moving it (the ball), we just couldn't finish the drives in the end zone. We did a good job kicking the field goals."

"I thought, defensively, we played better than we had been playing," Peavey continued. "(But) when you get down there in the stretch and all of a sudden you have a couple of turnovers, a good football team can take advantage of it."

The Bears were held to just under 200 yards of total offense. Mikel Anderson topped the ground game with 46 yards on seven carries. Haygood ran for the Bears' only touchdown.

Haygood and
Neil McLaurin combined to complete 13 of 25 passes for 110 yards. Ravian Pierce had five catches for 25 yards, Fredrick Trevillion four for 24 and Averyon Harris three for 49. Jordan Jones also had a catch.

The Bears recorded 11 first downs and were penalized six times for 57 yards. Maldonado averaged 37.3 yards on six punts.

Barnett led the Warriors' offense with 203 yards and a touchdown on 34 carries. Marino toted the ball 11 times for 60 yards and a score.

Marino completed five of 11 passes for 88 yards and a pair of touchdowns, one to Gibson and one to Chris Deloach. He was intercepted once.

The Warriors totaled 24 first downs on the night and had 65 yards on six penalties.
