The Bears' first-ever appearance in the MACJC playoffs got off to a roaring start Tuesday night in Decatur as they defeated the host East Central Warriors 5-1.

The win moved the Bears to 13-5 on the year. They will now advance to the MACJC semi-finals Saturday in Perkinston and play the host Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs at 6:00. A win over Gulf Coast will place the Bears in Sunday's championship game.

Jaime Delor put the Bears up 1-0 at 12:39 when he scored off a deflected shot that was taken by Francisco Alisiardi. At 26:10, Morris Aitken made it 2-0 when he scored off a deflected shot taken by Delor.

At 37:32, the Warriors defense stepped up and Alisiardi made them pay with a through ball to Delor who then finished it cleanly past the keeper. The resulting goal, Delor's second of the game and 29th of the season, left the Bears with a 3-0 lead at halftime. Alisiardi's second assist of the game put him at 13 on the season, setting team single-season and career records.

At 60:56 of the game, Delor flicked the ball on to Aitken who then capitalized with his second goal of the game, after shielding off two defenders, to increase the Bears' lead to 4-0.

Michael Escobar made it 5-0 at 76:06 when he scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick.

The Warriors avoided the shutout when Fredy Gutierrez found the back of the net on a penalty kick at 78:32.

Bears' head coach Zach Mills said he was "very excited how they (his players) came together (tonight). They knew how important this game was (and) they stepped it up and made sure every second they were alive and ready."

"We had a couple of scares," Mills went on. "East Central was pushing, but we kept the ball out of the back of the net and then we started putting it in."

Looking ahead to Saturday, Mills said his team understands "the importance of every match. Tonight it was 'win or go home'. Saturday's the same thing. Gulf Coast has done well this year, but we have also done very well. The last time we played them, we kept them tight in the first half then I started making some changes because I was worried about the rest of the season. But, it's all or nothing now so let's go in there and take care of business."
