The Southwest Bears and visiting Northwest Rangers played 110 minutes Saturday afternoon and left the field with no winner as they battled to a 1-1 tie in double overtime.

The Bears took a 1-0 lead at 36:10 of the first half when
Tristan Garriga scored from the six off a left-footed pass from Whit Davis. The lead held up until 64:39 on the second half when Northwest tied things at 1-1 on an unassisted goal by Armando Barron.

With neither team scoring in the final 35:21 of regulation, the game went into overtime. With no goals coming in either of the two extra 10:00 periods, the teams ended the day still tied.

Southwest keeper
Bryant Boyington had an excellent day in goal, totaling 10 saves. "Obviously, Bryant played great," said Southwest head coach Drew Gallant, "only giving up the one goal on a free kick.

Referring to Garriga's goal, Gallant said "Tristan's only been healthy a couple of days so we expect more to come from him; he'll be healthier. Things are getting better. The guys are getting healthier. We didn't have much depth (today); we have four kids out right now with injuries so maybe they'll be back for Tuesday and hopefully things will go much better."

The Bears return to action Tuesday when they travel to Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland to face the Holmes Bulldogs in a scheduled 4:00 matchup.
