It was a mixed day for the Southwest Bears as they made the long trip to Clarksdale and returned home with an MACJC conference split with host Coahoma. The Bears took the nightcap, 4-1, after the Tigers held on for a 6-5 win in the opener.

With the split, and Meridian's sweep of Mississippi Gulf Coast, the Bears moved into a possible playoff position with six games left in the season.

The Bears (17-19, 10-12) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two when
Ross Buckley doubled to left field with two outs, the first of his three hits in the game, and scored two batters later on the first of Tanner Whittington's two hits.

The score went to 2-0 in the top of the fourth when
Brady Anderson led off with a single to centerfield and scored on Jarvis Warner's two-out base hit. A walk and base hit turned into a run for Coahoma in the bottom of the frame to make the score 2-1.

Kaleb Clarke's second hit of the game drove home Jesse Pittman in the Bears' half of the fifth. Clarke then scored the final run of the game on a Coahoma error to give the Bears their margin of victory.

Cliff Hurst pitched four innings, giving up a unearned run on four hits and two walks, to record the win for the Bears. He struck out three batters. Entering the game with two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh, Brady Badon retired the only batter he faced to pick up the save. Walt Aldridge had a double in the game.

The Bears took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning of game one. The first of two
Trent Gordy singles accounted for one run while the first of two Duncan Cornfoot doubles drove in another and Dylan Spiers' double scored the other. Three hits resulted in a pair of runs for Coahoma (5-31, 4-17) in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 3-2.

Duncan Cornfoot led off the top of the fifth for the Bears with a double to centerfield, the second of his three hits in the game, and gave the Bears a 4-2 advantage when he scored on Buckley's second hit, a one-out base hit to left. Four hits and a Southwest error allowed Coahoma to score four times in the bottom of the fifth and take a 6-4 lead.

The Bears scored their final run of the game, and pulled to within one, when Gordy's groundout in the top of the seventh scored Warner from third base.

Jacob Buchanan took the loss on the mound for the Bears, giving up six runs (four earned) on nine hits in six innings of work.

Aldridge had two singles in the game while Anderson, Clarke and
Sam Richard each had a hit.

The Bears return home on Wednesday when they host the East Central Warriors in a 3:00 twinbill.
