Lady Bears sweep doubleheader at Hinds

Two seventh-inning explosions propelled the Southwest Lady Bears to their first MACJC South Division wins of the season Saturday afternoon as they swept the home standing Hinds Lady Eagles, 7-5 and 8-2.
 
The Lady Bears are scheduled to return to action Monday in Decatur as they visit the East Central Warriors. Game one is set for a 1:00 first pitch.
 
In game one Saturday, the Lady Bears (10-8, 2-4) were down 3-0 before LEANN JACKSON drove in two runs with a base hit in the top of the second inning to make it 3-2.
 
The Lady Bears were down 5-2 before their first explosion took place in the top of the seventh. SARAH ROBERTS led off the frame with a home run to make it 5-3. Later in the inning, JESSIE PENTON double to send another run across the plate and put the Lady Bears on top 6-5. JESSICA PIPKINS followed with a double of her own to score Penton and make it 7-5. Hinds was unable to score in the bottom of the inning, giving the Lady Bears the win.
 
KEELY FORTENBERRY picked up the win with six innings in the circle. She allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits while walking one and striking out one. BROOKE CHAFFEE also doubled in the game.
 
Both teams scored a run in the second inning of the finale and they remained deadlocked until the top of the seventh when the Lady Bears sent seven runners across the plate.
 
The big blow came when Roberts hit her second homer of the day, a three-run shot, over the fence in left field to make the score 8-1. The Lady Eagles (7-9, 1-5) scored a run in the bottom of the inning, but it was not nearly enough as the Lady Bears completed the sweep.
 
MACY FULTON picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Bears. Pitching a complete game, she surrendered two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out nine.
 
Penton and Chaffee both doubled in the game.
