Kaleb Clarke
's two-out base hit in the bottom of the seventh provided the winning margin as the Southwest Bears defeated the visiting Mississippi Delta Trojans 6-5 in the nightcap and garnered a split in their Wednesday doubleheader. A seventh-inning rally fell short in the opener as Mississippi Delta won 8-7.

The Bears are set to open conference play Saturday when they host East Mississippi in a 2:00 twinbill.

The Bears (6-6) went up 2-0 in game two Wednesday when
Duncan Cornfoot launched a ball over the 370 sign in left centerfield. The Trojans then tied it with single runs in the third and fourth innings.

Base hits by
Brady Anderson, Clarke, Dylan Spiers and Reed James propelled the Bears to a three-run fifth inning that put them back on top 5-2. But, the lead would not last as the Trojans (6-7) scored two in the top of the sixth and added another in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5.

Then came the bottom of the seventh.
L.D. Coney walked to start the frame, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a ground out. Clarke then stepped to the plate and provided the game-winning hit.

Spiers picked up the win on the mound. He surrendered two runs on four hits and struck out three in two innings of work. He also hit safely twice in the game.
Trent Gordy had a triple while Jarvis Warner doubled.

The Bears were down 2-0 in the bottom of the first of game one before getting on the board with Clarke's two-run single that scored Spiers and Warner. The score was 6-2 in favor of the Trojans when Anderson's single scored Warner in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-3.

The Trojans picked up single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take an 8-3 lead before the Bears made things interesting in the bottom of the inning.

Doubles by Anderson and Gordy, a
Ross Buckley single and walks to Coney, Spiers and Sam Richard helped the Bears scored four runs to make it 8-7. Unfortunately, the tying and winning runs were left on base as the Trojans held on for the win.

Charlie Waddingham took the loss for the Bears, giving up six runs on nine hits in three innings on the mound. He struck out two batters.

Anderson and Gordy both had a single and double in the game while Coney tripled and singled.
