Lady Bears take two from visiting Mississippi Delta

The Southwest Lady Bears swept the visiting Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans Monday afternoon, taking game one 2-0 before closing out the day with a 7-3 victory in the finale.
 
The Lady Bears (12-10) picked up all the runs they would need in the opener when SARAH ROBERTS' base hit to centerfield plated JESSIE PENTON and AUSTIN PRUITT. Both had reached base via errors.
 
MADDY TEAGUE picked up a complete-game win in the circle, giving up four hits and striking out six batters.    BROOKE CHAFFEE, PAYTON LEWIS and SHADEN MILLER all hit safely for the Lady Bears.
 
The Lady Bears took a 2-0 first-inning lead in the nightcap when Pruitt lead off with a double, and later scored, and Penton was hit by a pitch and later reached home as part of a double steal.
 
The Lady Trojans (0-14) tied the game in the top of the fourth on Gabbie Smith's two-run homer. But, Roberts quickly put the Lady Bears back on top to stay in the bottom of the frame with a solo blast over the centerfield fence, her sixth homer of the season.
 
An RBI single by Penton and Miller's steal of home, as part of another double steal, helped the Lady Bears score four more runs in the fifth. The Lady Trojans scored added a run in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough.
 
MACY FULTON registered the win with seven innings in the circle. She gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits. She struck out five batters and walked one. Miller had two hits in the game while JANA MCEWEN and PAIGE WALTERS also hit safely.
 
The Lady Bears are scheduled to get back into action on Wednesday when they host the Lady Eagles of Meridian. The MACJC South Division twinbill is set to get underway at 3:00.
