Bears drop a pair of games in Baton Rouge

The Southwest Bears dropped a pair of baseball games in Baton Rouge Thursday, falling to Jones County 13-3 and host Baton Rouge Community College 6-5. They are scheduled to return to the diamond Sunday with a 2:00 nine-inning affair against visiting Co-Lin. The game will serve as round one of the Coca-Cola Baseball Challenge presented by Powerade.
 
The loss to Baton Rouge came despite the Bears holding a 5-2 lead after five innings. BRCC tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and scored the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh when the lead-off hitter crossed the plate after reaching base on an error.
 
Kaleb Clarke, L.D. Coney, Trent Gordy and Dylan Spiers all singled for the Bears. Spiers was saddled with the loss after surrendering the unearned run in the seventh.
 
Brady Anderson doubled for one of the Bears' five hits in the loss to Jones County. Coney, Sam Richard, Spiers and Tanner Whittington all singled. Cliff Hurst took the loss on the mound.
