Lady Bears fall at home to 23rd-ranked Co-Lin

Despite taking an early lead, the Southwest Lady Bears were unable to overcome 23rd-ranked Co-Lin Thursday night as the visitors took home a 67-50 win to remain undefeated.
 
Co-Lin climbed to 21-0 overall and 12-0 in the MACJC's South Division. The Lady Bears dropped to 10-11 and 6-6.
 
Gabriella Cortez (Natchitoches, LA) gave the home crowd reason for hope early on as she scored three straight buckets to give the Lady Bears a 6-0 lead with 17:43 left in the first half. But, Co-Lin quickly responded and took a 10-9 lead with 13:06 on the clock. A 13-4 run to end the half gave the visitors a 35-17 lead at the break.
 
A pair of Cortez free throws brought the Lady Bears back to within 12 points, 39-27, with 16:01 left in the game. But, that would prove to be as close as they would get the rest of the night as Co-Lin led by as many as 21 points enroute to the 17-point win.
 
Cortez tallied 20 points to lead the Lady Bears and all scorers. Madison Mault (Lamar Christian) and Eyonna Wolfe (Provine) both scored 10 points. The Lady Bears were nearly perfect from the free throw line, hitting 12 of 14.
 
Claresa Banks totaled 12 points to lead Co-Lin in scoring. The visitors hit nine of 15 free throws.
 
The Lady Bears travel to Ellisville Monday night for a 5:30 South Division matchup against Jones County.
