Lady Bears swept by visiting Holmes

The visiting Holmes Community College came into Summit Thursday and left town with a doubleheader sweep of the Southwest Lady Bears, taking game one 5-2 and winning the nightcap 9-3.
 
The Lady Bears take a few days off before returning to the home diamond on February 17 with a 3:00 twinbill against the Northwest Lady Rangers.
 
In the opener Thursday, the Lady Bears (5-3) trailed 3-0 before getting on the board in the bottom of the fifth. LEYTON TERRELL (MCCOMB HS) reached base on an error to lead off the inning and later scored on the first of three SHADEN MILLER (OCEAN SPRINGS HS) base hits.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, with Holmes on top 5-1, Miller reached base on a one-out error and scored two batters later on PAYTON LEWIS' (ALEXANDRIA, LA) base hit to right field to close out the scoring.
 
MACY FULTON (MARION, LA) took the loss for the Lady Bears, allowing three earned runs on five hits and a walk in 4.2 innings in the circle. She struck out one batter. JESSIE PENTON (GOSS ROAD SCHOOL) had a double for the Lady Bears.
 
In the finale, Holmes held a 6-0 lead before the Lady Bears scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Miller tripled to score a run and later scored on JESSICA PIPKINS' (PERRY CENTRAL HS) single.
 
Holmes (2-2) held a 9-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh when the Lady Bears scored their final run of the game on Miller's RBI single. JANA MCEWEN (NORTH PIKE HS) reached home on the play.
 
MADDY TEAGUE (LONG BEACH HS) gave up five runs, four earned, on eight hits in taking the loss for the Lady Bears. She walked two batters and struck out two.
